Gabriele Hiller-Ohm
Member of the German Bundestag
Born February 28, 1953 in Lübeck;
Single mother of two children.

Professional career
Studied at the University of Hamburg;
trained as an electrician;
worked as a journalist for several years;
built up public relations section at Lübeck University of Applied Sciences from 1987;
headed the LEONARDO office at Lübeck University of Applied Sciences from 1997.

Political Commitment
Joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in 1983;
elected to Lübeck city council in 1990;
chairwoman of the SPD group on the council from 1999 to 2002;
chairwoman of the Mühlentor Ost local branch of the SPD in Lübeck;
deputy chairwoman of the Lübeck county branch of the SPD;
Member of the German Bundestag since October 2002.

Member of the Committee on Labour and Social Affairs:
rapporteur for the topics of social assistance (Book XII of the Social Code),
standard benefit rates (Books XII and II of the Social Code),
poverty and fair distribution,
gender equality, temporary work and
people with disabilities (Book IX of the Social Code).

Member of the Committee on Tourism:
responsible for employment and training in the tourism sector,
security issues (in particular terrorism and data protection),
consumer protection and information,
accessible travel,
youth and family tourism,
and trade fairs and business travel.

Substitute member of the Committee on Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection.
